Formats:
Cafe' Bauld natively supports the following formats:
Cafe' Bauld, PICT, PNG, JPEG, Photoshop, and TIFF.
Cafe' Bauld imports the following formats:
BMP, GIF, MacPaint, PDF, QuickTime Image File, SGI, and Targa. Images
with multiple layers are flattened upon import.
Cafe' Bauld Brushes and Tools:
Sharp AirBrush
The standard airbrush. The Source Picture is painted in the Foreground
Color.
Light Blend AirBrush
The Light Blend Airbrush uses a moderate amount of mixing of the paint
on the canvas.
Medium Airbrush
The Medium Airbrush uses some mixing of the paint on the canvas,
within a narrow stream of paint spray.
Heavy Airbrush
The Heavy Airbrush mixes a large amount of paint within a small area
of the center of the brush.
Narrow Maximum Blend Airbrush
The Narrow Maximum Blend Airbrush mixes a 100% of the paint within a
small area of the center of the brush.
Overspray Airbrush
The Overspray Airbrush simulates the behavior of a real airbrush.
Spray is wide and blending is light. Warning: this brush needs a
powerful processor. To stop all brushes in the middle of painting,
hit Command-Period.
High Quality Airbrush
The High Quality Airbrush simulates the behavior of a real airbrush.
Blending is more accurate than the Medium Quality airbrush, and
needs more processor power. To stop all brushes in the middle of
painting, hit Command-Period.
Watercolor AirBrush
The Watercolor Airbrush is a hybrid airbrush which adds a transparent
layer of paint to the canvas.
Pressurized Airbrush
The Pressurized Airbrush blows the paint away from the airbrush source
as it paints on the canvas.
Drip Airbrush
The Drip Airbrush uses watercolor paint and large droplets to produce
a watercolor effect on the canvas.
Thin Airbrush
The Thin Airbrush uses watercolor paint and large droplets to produce
a watercolor effect on the canvas.
PatternBrush
The PatternBrush is a special airbrush which paints a pattern on the
canvas using the Primary Source Pen Pict for the back- ground, and
the Secondary Source Pen Pict as a mask, making tiles 128x128 pixels
wide. The final mixture produced on the canvas is a result mainly of
the Foreground color and Primary Source Pen Pict.
Background Smearbrush
The Light Blend PatternBrush uses the brush as a background, merging
the paint from the brush and the paint on the canvas.
FunnelBrush
The FunnelBrush uses a heavy amount of blending with the paint from
the brush and the paint on the canvas within close distance of the
center of the PatternBrush.
Flat Airbrush
The Flat Airbrush adds paint evenly to all hues and brightnesses. Hues
grow more saturated as more paint is applied from the Airbrush.
Light Blend Airbrush
The Light Blend Airbrush uses a moderate amount of blending with the
paint from the brush and the paint on the canvas.
Lucid Brush
This Airbrush simulates overspray.
Hard Paintbrush
The Hard Paintbrush blends the paint from the brush with the paint on
the canvas in multiple directions simultaneously.
Whirlpool Airbrush
Blurs the paint in a large square around the brush with a whirlpool
movement.
Twirlbrush
The Twirlbrush creates light spinning effects with the paint, while
Airbrushing, to generate a realistic painterly effect.
Spinbrush
The Spinbrush creates light spinning effects with the paint to
generate a realistic painterly effect.
Whirlwind Airbrush
The Whirlwind Airbrush creates spinning effects with the paint to
generate a realistic painterly effect.
Tornado Airbrush
The Tornado Airbrush creates strong spinning effects with the paint to

Pen
The Pen quickly adds exact, unblended colors to the canvas.

Foreground color.
Acetone Pen
The Acetone Pen adds acetone to the canvas, causing paint to blur in
the shape of the Source Brush Pict, while adding ink to the canvas.
Smooth Pen
The Smooth Pen adds ink to the canvas, which bleeds with nearby paint.
Rough Gel Pen
The Rough Gel Pen will move paint as it adds rough, uneven ink to the
canvas in the Foreground color.
Wet Ink Airbrush
The Wet Ink Airbrush blows the ink as you apply it to the canvas.
Pressurized Ink
The Pressurized Ink tool moves high amounts of paint as it applies wet
ink to the canvas.
Spinning Ink
The Spinning Ink Pen moves in sweeping circles based on quick mouse
movements.
Scattered Ink
The Scattered Ink Pen paints in interactive scattered patterns based
on the mouse movements.
3D PaintBrush
The 3D Paintbrush follows your cursor closely to give your art a 3D
painterly feel. It picks up and blends paint as it moves across the
canvas.
Impasto PaintBrush
The Impasto Paintbrush adds thick 3D paint to your canvas. When you
move the brush, it will carry 25% of the paint along with it.
Deep PatternBrush
The Deep PatternBrush maintains an underpattern from the Primary
Source Picture while adding a depth to the paint.
Soft Impasto Brush
The Soft Impasto Brush moves freely, following realtime movements of
the mouse.
Smear PaintBrush
The Smear PaintBrush slowly adds color to your canvas from only the
Foreground Color. It will carry 50% of the paint along with it.
3D PatternBrush
3D PatternBrush paints in 3D, blends paint from the canvas, and
maintains an underpattern from the Primary Source Picture.
Deep Paintbrush
The Deep Paintbrush is the traditional paintbrush combined with thick
paint.
Blended PatternBrush
The Blended PatternBrush paints in 3D, blends paint from the canvas,
and maintains an underpattern from the Primary Source Picture.
*Edges To Color
This tool takes bright colors and blurs them to the right in bright
streaks of color. Brushes with a star preceding the name do not
affect blank white canvas, only existing artwork.
Levels Airbrush
Levels Airbrush loops through the whole spectrum of color as it
paints.
UnderBrush
This brush keeps looping the colors from dark to light shades, and all
over again. Use this tool with the blurring and blending tools to
get some very cool special effects.
Loop Color
Similar to the Chemical Transfer Tool, the Loop Color Tool brings
abstract textures to the canvas. Colors are most pronounced at 100%
Brush Intensity. For best results, set the Special Brush Attributes
(Command-B) to loop through the Source Picts.
Chemical Transfer
This tool simulates a unique chemical reaction on the canvas. The hue
can grow more diversified over time, but not all hues are possible
with this brush alone.
Inverse Color
The Inverse Color Tool is a powerful tool which transforms paint into
a different abstract form. The final colors vary based on the
Foreground Color.
Bohemia
This brush changes colors as you use it. Different intensity settings
will change the colors which Bohemia loops through.
Blur Bohemia
Blur Bohemia changes colors as it paints. Different intensity settings
will change the colors which Bohemia loops through. In addition,
Blur Bohemia behaves as an oil paint brush, pushing and blending the
paint.
Xoto
The xoto brush creates rainbow fractal noise on the canvas.
Heavy Blend Tool
The Heavy Blend Tool intensely pulls and sculpts the paint on the
canvas.
Marquee
Use the Marquee to select or mask your artwork. The Marquee works just
like traditional Marquee tools, however, it is integrated with the
Masking so that you can use either the Masking Brush or the Lasso or
Marquee at any time. Use the Shift key for the Lasso Add tool, and
the Option key for the Lasso subtract tool.
Crop
Select an area of the canvas which you would like to crop, then
double-click on the inside of the selection to crop.
Lasso
Use the Lasso to select or mask your artwork. The Lasso works just
like traditional Lasso tools, however, it is integrated with the
Masking so that you can use either the Masking Brush or the Lasso or
Marquee at any time. Use the Shift key for the Lasso Add tool, and the
Option key for the Lasso subtract tool.
Masking Brush
Use the Masking Brush to mask areas of your artwork which you don't
want to be touched by any tools or brushes. Use the Option key to
change the Brush to a Masking Eraser. Use the 'Show Masking' option in
the Lasso/Masking menu to see where your artwork is covered up, and
the 'Hide Masking' option to work without the distraction of the Blue
Masking.
Vertical Masking Line
Use the Vertical Masking Line to mask straight areas of your artwork
which you don't want to be touched by any tools or brushes. Use the
Option key to change the Tool to a Masking Eraser. Use the 'Show
Masking' option in the Lasso/Masking menu to see where your artwork is
covered up, and the 'Hide Masking' option to work without the
distraction of the Blue Masking. The (B)rush Size determines the
width of this tool.
Horizontal Masking Line
Use the Horizontal Masking Line to mask straight areas of your artwork
which you don't want to be touched by any tools or brushes. Use the
Option key to change the Tool to a Masking Eraser. Use the 'Show
Masking' option in the Lasso/Masking menu to see where your artwork is
covered up, and the 'Hide Masking' option to work without the
distraction of the Blue Masking. The (B)rush Size determines the
thickness of this tool.
BlendColorsLight
This brush is best for blending noise and rough edges, and blends the
paint, scraping it to the left. A good brush for bleeding the paint
next to sharp edges. The light brush also adds some color saturation
to your picture.
HyperColorMix
This brush blends the paint with a special formula, and adds
saturation of color to the canvas. It also works well with converting
noise to rich colors.
BlendColorsDark
This brush blends noise and moves the paint to the left. A good brush
for bleeding the paint next to sharp edges.
RainbowSpray
The RainbowSpray Tool uses high pressure blending of the paint with
bright red and cyan flames.
Mandel Pencil
The Mandel Pencil creates MandleBrot outlines in the middle of the
airbrush, for a natural feel. The fractal image changes as time ticks.
Fractal Exile
The Fractal Exile Brush mixes Julia Fractal images with paint on the
canvas. The fractal image changes as time progresses.
3D Exile
The 3D Exile Brush mixes 3D Julia Fractal images with paint on the
canvas. The fractal image changes as time progresses.
Smooth Exile
The Smooth Exile Tool creates blended fractal images.
Rough Gel MandelBrush
The Rough Gel MandelBrush adds MandelBrot fractal gel to the canvas.
Wet Exile
The Wet Exile Tool scatters the paint as it creates fractal images.
Chemical Mandelbrush
Creates naturalistic textures and paintings with fractalian chemical
reactions on the canvas
*Contrast Brush
Contrast Brush removes the color from your images. Be sure to set the
Saturation to a low percentage or your art will quickly become
gray. Brushes with a star preceding the name do not affect blank white
canvas, only existing artwork.
*Lose Gradient
The Lose Gradient brush removes the extra colors from your image,
leaving flat colors. Experiment with different Brush Intensity
settings from 10-80% to remove lots of image data from your picture
(and get better JPEG compression and smaller file sizes). Brushes with
a star preceding the name do not affect blank white canvas, only
existing artwork.
*Simplify Colors
The Simplify Colors brush removes ranges of color from the canvas,
based on the Brush (D)egree setting, also known as the Brush
Intensity. SimplifyColors does not have any affect on grayscale
images. Brushes with a star preceding the name do not affect blank
white canvas, only existing artwork.
Dunamis
Dunamis is a dynamic airbrush that brings out hidden colors from the
canvas. It exposes all the small variations in hue.
Stardust Brush
The Stardust Brush blasts the canvas with random blurring and blending
stardust particles.
Shamgar
Shamgar leaves a transparent shape of the Airbrush Source Picture over
the canvas for an abstract, painterly look.
Spray Can
The SprayCan is a virtual spraypaint airbrush.
Fractal Pencil
The Fractal Pencil draws a fractal silhouette with the pencil.
Marzipan
Marzipan creates a blurred fish-net style grid over the canvas, for
different effects to the canvas, such as a multi-colored brushed
aluminum feel. Different Brush Intensities will directly affect the
shape of the grid. Low Brush Intensities will not exhibit a grid but
mostly noise.
*Hue Cycle
The Hue Cycle tool steadily loops the hue of paint on the canvas,
based on a mask of the Primary Source Pen Pict.
*Single Hue Change
This brush changes all of your artwork to the foreground color.
*Saturate
Increases the saturation of paint on the canvas. Brushes with a star
preceding the name do not affect blank white canvas, only existing
artwork.
*Desaturate
Removes the color from the canvas. Be sure to set the Saturation to a
low percentage or your art will quickly become gray. Brushes with a
star preceding the name do not affect blank white canvas, only
existing artwork.
BrightnessHueCycle
This brush cycles through the spectrum and the brightness level of the
paint on the canvas.
*Hue Blend Add
Changes the hue smoothly through the colors of the spectrum in minor
increments (based on Degree). Brushes with a star preceding the name
do not affect blank white canvas, only existing artwork.
*Hue Blend Subtract
Changes the hue smoothly through the colors of the spectrum in minor
increments (based on Degree). Brushes with a star preceding the name
do not affect blank white canvas, only existing artwork.
*Hue Step Add
Changes the hue instantly to a hue based on the (D)egree setting. The
Hue Step Add brush goes in positive degrees, and the Hue Step Subtract
brush goes in negative degrees.
*Hue Step Subtract
Changes the hue instantly to a hue based on the (D)egree setting. The
Hue Step Add brush goes in positive degrees, and the Hue Step Subtract
brush goes in negative degrees. Brushes with a star preceding the name
do not affect blank white canvas, only existing artwork.
Masking Bucket
This essential tool works exactly like the Paint Bucket, but it will
cover your art with Masking instead of paint.
Lasso Line Tool
Select your artwork line by line for extra accuracy when selecting and
masking your artwork.
*Clone Tool
After selecting this tool, Option-click on your canvas to target an
area which you would like to mimic. Brushes with a star preceding the
name do not affect blank white canvas, only existing artwork.
Paint Bucket
Paint select portions of your canvas with the Paint Bucket. Adjust the
Intensity to determine the amount at which the paint will spill over
the entire canvas. For more advanced effects, use the Masking bucket
instead and then apply Filters to the resulting selection.
Zoom
Zoom in and out of your artwork with the zoom tool. To zoom out, hold
down the option key and click on the canvas.
Zoom Out
The Zoom Out Tool will lower the magnification of the canvas. For
artists whom do not wish to use the keyboard, the Zoom tool can be
used for zooming in, and the Zoom Out tool can be used for zooming
out.
More
Image Hoses:
Cafe' Bauld uses 32-bit Image Hoses with
the airbrush and paint tools, and even with
some of the filters. The Image Hoses can be
blended with other Image Hoses, inverted,
and the density and hue can be adjusted. The
canvas can be saved as an Image Hose as well,
and creations can be saved into the Image Hoses
folder.
